ESTRELLA 2ND, BURANDT 3RD FOR U16'S IN NWC FINALS SUPER G


April 12- Mt. Bachelor, Oregon- Michael Estrella led the SSRA men at the Northwest Cup Finals Super G at Mt. Bachelor on Friday. Estrella took silver for the U16 men (10th overall) in 1:07.80 in a race won by Austin Dean of MRST (1:04.97). Second overall was MRST's Cai Yamamoto finishing in 1:06.05 followed by Sugar Bowl's Luke Winters registering a 1:06.44. Will Gottsch led the first year SSRA U16's with a 41st place finish (20th for U16's and 9th in his year of birth-1998) in 1:14.15. Adrian Markewych was close behind in 43rd (21st for U16's/10th for 1998's) with a 1:14.37 chased by Connor Peck who was 44th (22nd for U16's/11th for 1998's) and Kyle Luiten placing 50th (27th for U16's and 12th for 1998's). Elyse Burandt topped the SSRA womens ranks with a bronze in the U16's (11th overall) breaking the finish beam at 1:13.80. Showing their future promise, the first year SSRA women finished 6th, 9th and 12th in their year of birth and 12th, 15th and 18th for the U16's. Rianne Ellingwood led the charge with her 19th overall finish in 1:17.63 narrowly besting teammate Berkeley Guenzel with her 22nd place finish in 1:18.09 and Briley Thompson in 25th in 1:18.81. The overall women's race was won by Sun Valley's Kyla Miller in 1:08.72 with Anna Mounsey (TAS) next with a 1:08.82, and Lindsay Ahmann (MRST) in 1:09.65.

SSRA U16 TEAM SECOND IN PNSA; BURANDT, ESTRELLA SWEEP TOP SPOTSMarch 31- The Spokane Ski Racing Association U16 Team took 2nd in the Pacific Northwest Ski Association behind perrenial favorite, Crystal Mountain Alpine Club in the overall team calculations for the 2013 PNSA U16 Series. Teams from around the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, and North Idaho) accumulated points throughout the season at the divisional U16 qualifiers and this weekend's U16 Finals. The team consisted of Elyse Burandt, Rianne Ellingwood, Berkeley Guenzel, Briley Thompson, Nic Dixon, Michael Estrella, Will Gottsch, Kyle Luiten, Adrian Markewych, and Connor Peck. Congratulations to the team on their remarkable accomplishment! The women's team was 2nd overall and the men team was 4th. Elyse Burandt and Michael Estrella also took top individual honors in the season long series. This is the first time in memory that SSRA athletes, or athletes from any one team have accomplished the impressive feat. Congratulations on being the best in the Pacific Northwest!
MISSION POSSIBLE; EDMONDSON 4th, BURANDT 5th AT THE RIDGEMarch 31- SSRA athlete Korbyn Edmondson took a podium spot on Sunday with a 4th place for U14's in 1:50.81. The men's winner was Canadian U16 Jeffrey Read of the Banff Alpine Racers in 1:31.00. Tops for SSRA was Michael Estrella in 18th stopping time at 1:42.66, after having difficulty in the 1st run. Scot Simpson was 54th in 2:14.58 and Jared Farley was 55th in 2:17.55 posting solid times on second runs after challenges during their first runs. SSRA women were led by Elyse Burandt who won the second run of the race and took 5th for U16's (6th overall) in a combined time of 1:31.94. Berkeley Guenzel stuck her second run to finish in 31st with a time of 1:43.54 while Briley Thompson's first run was impressive to contribute to a combined placing of 42nd in 1:48.27.
