SSRA YSL ATHLETES FAST AT FINALS

March 26- SSRA travelled to Bluewood Ski Area in Dayton, Washington to race in the Emerald Empire Youth Ski League Finals, March 23-24. The two day event consisted of a slalom and giant slalom. SSRA showed up in full force to lead the league in the culminating event of the season-long series. Congratulations to the team on another outstanding effort.

Slalom Highlights- Ladies: In the U8's, Audrey Dale took gold and Ava Anyan took silver. Allison Gardella was 4th and Sonja Toillion finished 6th. Lizzie Quesinberry won the U10's with Maya Peck finishing on the second step of the podium. Annalise Toillion was next for SSRA with a 9th place, Linnea Sunderman was 10th, Audrey Harrill was 11th, Helen Garabedian was 12th, and Mikaela Grzelak was 13th. The U12 women were led by silver medalist Amy Farley and bronze medalist Daria Markewych. Isabell Simpson was 4th, Ginny Lou Garabedian was 12th, Rachel Ellingwood was 13th, Sydney Anyan was 16th, Rachel Ewers 18th, Grace Harrill 19th, and Olivia Ellingwood in 20th. SSRA U14's were led by Rachel Grzelak in 8th and Sidney Goranson in 9th.

Men: The SSRA U8's were led by Charlie Schafer with a silver medal and Julien Spitz with the bronze. Hrair Garabedian was next in 7th, Zach Jenner finished 9th, and Micaiah Aden was 11th. Top SSRA U10 Will Emsch took 5th place followed by Skylar Hanson in 12th, Jack Toillion in 14th, Jaden Spitz in 15th, Jonah Aden in 16th, Ryan Dix in 17th, and Kingston Lord in 21st. SSRA athlete Reilley Anderson won the U12 age class with Jacob Shurtleff taking silver, and Jake Mamola taking bronze. Aditya Varadan finished 4th, Tommy Kasimov 5th, Caden Goranson 7th, Macallyster Edmondson and Donovan Bragiel tied for 9th, Henry Schafer was 11th, Jack Dale was 14th, Trenton Gardella was 15th, Drew Farley was 16th, and Benjamin Lewis finished 18th. The U14 men was led by SSRA's Cole McClellan with gold and Korbyn Edmondson with silver. Hunter Scheidt was 4th, Jared Farley was 5th, Taylor Allen in 8th, and Scot Simpson was 10th.

Giant Slalom Highlights: Ladies: Audrey Dale made it two wins for the SSRA U8's. Following Dale was Alliison Gardella with the bronze, Sonja Toillion in 4th, Ava Anyan in 6th, and Georgia Lewis in 7th. SSRA U10's were led by Lizzie Quesinberry in 2nd and Maya Peck in 3rd. Next was Audrey Harrill in 10th, Helen Garabedian in 11th, Annalise Toillion in 12th and Mikaela Grzelak in 13th. Tops for SSRA U12's was Daria Markewych with the silver and Amy Farley with bronze. Isabell Simpson was 4th, Rachel Ewers in 13th, Ginny Lou Garabedian in 14th, Sydney Anyan in 15th, Rachel Ellingwood in 18th, Olivia Ellingwood in 19th, and Grace Harrill in 20th. Julien Spitz took bronze followed by Bruce Emsch in 6th, Noah Scheidt in 7th, Hrair Garabedian in 10th, Zach Jenner in 12th, and Micaiah Aden in 13th. Will Emsch led SSRA U10's with another strong 5th place finish. Ryan Dix was next in 11th, Skyler Hanson was 12th, Jonah Aden finished 14th, Jack Toillion was 17th, Jaden Spitz was 18th, and Kingston Lord was 20th. Reilley Anderson took gold in the U12's with Jake Mamola and Jacob Shurtleff taking silver and gold, respectively. Leander Erbeking finished in 4th, Aditya Varadan was 5th, Henry Schafer was 9th, Caden Goranson 10th, Trenton Gardella 11th, Jack Dale 12th, Donovan Bragiel 14th, Macallyster Edmondson 15th, Drew Farley 16th and Sam Cox in 18th. The SSRA U14 men were led by gold medalist Cole McClellan, silver medalist Jared Farley, and bronze medalist Korbyn Edmondson. Scot Simpson finished in 4th followed by Hunter Scheidt in 5th and Taylor Allen in 10th.

 

BURANDT, ESTRELLA NOTCH TOP TENS AT WR U16 CHAMPIONSHIPS

March 20- SSRA Alpine Team U16's

led the Pacific Northwest Ski Association

(PNSA) team at the Western Region U16

Championships. SSRA athlete, Elyse

Burandt was 5th in the slalom with a

combined time of 1:39.12. The race was

won by Isabella Wright of IMUS in 1:35.23.

The silver was taken by Stephanie Wright

of the US Alpine Team and bronze by

Natalie Williams of the FarWest Division.

Michael Estrella of SSRA was second for

PNSA with a 1:47.46; good for 6th place

overall in the giant slalom. The gold was won

by Michael Cooper, of the FarWest division

who stopped the clock in 1:46.16. Gray

Larson of Intermountain Division took second

and Alexander Birkner took bronze with times

of 1:46.80 and 1:47.29 respectively. U16 Nic

Dixon finished 25th in the race rounding out

the impressive trio of talented SSRA athletes.

In Super G #1 (Championship race), Stephanie Lebby of USAT took gold in 1:18.22. Isabelle Wright (IMUS) nabbed silver in 1:18.88 while Haley Cutler of Intermountain Division finished with bronze in 1:19.57. SSRA's Elyse Burandt was 10th with a time of 1:21.17. In Super G #2, Molly Leavens of the USAT won in 1:22.28. Maureen Lebel of FarWest was second in 1:22.89 and Elyse Burandt took bronze in 1:22.97. Coupled with her slalom result from earlier in the week, Burandt qualified as first alternate for the U16 National Championships Project.

In men's super G racing, Luke Winters of FarWest took the top spot in 1:15.87, Tanner Lujan of PNSA (MBSEF) was second in 1:16.88, and Ian Griffeth of IMUS was third in 1:17.24. Michael Estrella ranked 12th after stopping the clock at 1:18.72 in the championship event while Nic Dixon had some tough luck and suffered an arm injury. In super G #2, Luke Winters of FarWest repeated his winning ways with a time of 1:17.78 with Tanner Lujan of PNSA finishing in 1:18.53 and Calvin Wilson of FarWest in 1:20.16 claiming the other podium steps.
