Wow, what a weekend. Those were some of the most challenging racing
conditions that we have ever seen. It was tough. Really tough. And
as Coach Arney Wick said, it was truly a character building weekend.
But make no mistake, a lot of positive things came out of the weekend.
I am proud of the effort that each and every one of you put forth.
I also want to tell you how much I was impressed by our ability
to work as a team. We needed each other this weekend and thanks
for helping each other out with coats, ski tuning, etc.
In addition, each day of racing can bring a great deal of learning.
I was impressed at the positive attitudes even after some dissapointments.
I look forward to training with all of you over the coming weeks
and racing in January. After all, if we got through last weekend,
we can overcome any challenge that comes our way!
The only discouragement I encountered was when the field was cut
on Sunday. It was unfortunate because many of you stepped it up
a notch and had great first runs, but missed the cut. I have seen
this happen only two times in Junior racing prior to Sunday, and
both, were unfortunately at Mt. Bachelor. The important thing to
remember is that you can duplicate what you did in the first run
at the next race! In fact, after training more, you will be even
faster. Rest assured that you will get many, many more opportunities
to show the division what you can do!
The weekend was not without it's highlights! Jenna Sandvig had two
top 20 finishes (15th/18th) and had the 6th fastest overall time
on Saturday's second run!! Katy Loewy finished 33rd on Saturday
and Molly Oakley moved up from 63rd to 54th. In addition, Kat Lamberson
started 64th on Sunday and had the 31st fastest time in the morning.
Great job ladies.
On the guys side, Cameron Cubberley had a pair of top 25 finishes
(30th/14th). Sage Dunham finished 24th on Saturday. Mitch Carllson
was 25th on Sunday. And we had 4 huge move ups! Chris Edwards started
99th on Saturday and finished 50th! On Sunday, Chris started 74th
and finished 27th!! Cameron Steinback started 74th on Saturday and
finished 44th. On Sunday, Cam started 94th and finished 32nd!! In
total, we had 5 guys finishing in the top 32. Outstanding, gentlemen.
I also wanted to congratulate all of the first year Juniors on completing
their first Junior race. Molly Oakley, Kat Lamberson, Connor Downs
and Cliff Grout and Forrest Taylormade significant improvements
in technique and tactics throughout the weekend. Individual improvement
is the most important thing and we are proud of how you guys performed
and the efforts and the attitudes that you upheld all weekend long.
