The SSRA Fundraising Committee
is happy to announce that the first annual Race to the Summit and
Mt. Spokane Lap Race fundraiser was an overwhelming success. Not
only did the event raise nearly $2,000, but a large portion of the
membership participated in a fun event on a beautiful day at Mt.
Spokane.
Registration
opened at 11:00 and pledges were collected from each competitor.
Sierra Schrankel led SSRA is pledges with a total of $211! Carson
Ramsden was second and close on Sierra's heels with $200. And, third
place was a three way tie between Ryan Sandvig, Bill Dubiel and
Kyle Woodley, each collecting $100 in pledges.

The summit
race began at 11:30. Approximately 15 athletes, of all ages, races
up the cat track, half hitch, past the water station at the top
of Chair 3, up skookum and past the top of Chair 2 to the Vista
House. As the summit racers were finishing, the lap race began with
another 15 of SSRA's younger athletes competing above Lodge 2.
Both races were impressive. In the summit race, Junior athlete Beddome
Allen was first to the top, closely followed by parent, Dirk Elliot.
New member, Josh Warren, took third place in the highly competitive
competition. In the lap race, based on a 45 minute time limit, Charlie
Rieger took first place completing 24 laps. Lee Organick placed
second rounding the course 22 times. And, Ben Rieger, chasing brother
Charlie, finished 21 laps!

After
the races, folks enjoyed a BBQ and a good time re-connecting with
friends. A few folks brought gear to swap. And, Mt. Spokane took
pass pictures at the snow sports desk.
All-in-all,
the day was a great success with 62 people in attendance. Thank
you to Mt. Spokane, the fundraising committee, those who pledged
and the competitors who met the challenge! We look forward to this
event taking place annually and anticipate that it will grow from
a significantly large inaugural year! Way to go SSRA!!
