SSRA J3 athlete, Jenna Sandvig
travelled with the PNSA team to compete in the Western Region J3
Junior Olympics at Sun Valley, ID, March 19-21. The J3 Junior Olympics
showcases the fastest ski racers from around the west's five divisions
of USSA. Thirteen and fourteen year old athletes from PNSA, Far
West, Intermountain, Northern and Alaska converged in southern Idaho
to compete head to head in the four day event.
Jenna Sandvig of SSRA
returned to the Junior Olympics after competing during the 2002-2003
season in the same event. Last year Jenna got a "taste"
of the level of competition. This year, Sandvig stepped up her personal
performance and finished exceptionally well, making great improvements
over last year.
In the Super G, Jenna
finished 29th in what she would refer to as a less-than-perfect
run. Nonetheless, this result was a great improvement over her 50th
place finish in 2003! In the giant slalom, Sandvig placed even higher
clocking the 23rd fastest time overall. Again, Jenna improved over
her 2003 giant slalom finish profoundly. In 2003, she finished 55th
in the same event, moving up 32 places in 2004!!
Congratulations to Jenna
for a great 2004 J3 Junior Olympics! SSRA is proud of you!!
