At the 2004 PNSA Convention, SSRA and Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard
Park were selected to host the 2005 PNSA Buddy Werner Championships.
The event will take place on March 4-6, 2005. Teams will check in
on Thursday, March 3, train on Friday March 4 and race on Saturday
and Sunday March 5-6. Opening ceremonies will take place after training
on Friday and the banquet will take place on Saturday night.
"It is truly an honor
to be hosting the 2005 PNSA Buddy Werner Championships. The event
is the largest ski race in the Western United States and is the
most important race to the PNSA division for that reason. Not only
will the race bring great exposure to Mt. Spokane and SSRA, but
to Spokane itself. We can expect approximately 275 athletes, 100
coaches and over 600 parents and siblings. The economic impact to
our city will be significant. And the home field advantage should
not be underestimated. SSRA athletes haven't enjoyed that advantage
for two decades. Our race venues are challenging, perhaps the most
challenging in the Pacific Northwest. SSRA athletes will possess
a great deal of confidence in the event, having trained countless
hours on these venues," commented SSRA Program Director, Chuck
Holcomb, "We could not expect to tackle an event of this caliber
without the most supportive mountain in the division, Mt. Spokane
Ski and Snowboard Park. And our parent volunteer base is experienced
and energetic. We are lucky to have the resources, the families
and the managerial support to host PNSA's premier event!"
Much more information
will become available in the weeks and months to come. Thanks for
being part of SSRA, "The Best in the Inland Northwest Since
1960!"
